POWER SYSTEM SERVICES IS ESTABLISHED:

John Beauchamp establishes Power System Services, operating firstly from his home then a small unit in Bakewell Derbyshire. Using his experience and knowledge of supplying high quality goods into coal generating power stations he began supplying imported Air Preheater Baskets and seals to numerous UK generating sites. Site services in overhauling Airpreheaters at Drax Power Station also commenced.

GROWTH:

John’s son Paul joins PSS, and together they purchase a small fabrication workshop in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, which becomes the company’s first headquarters. Growth is steady over the next few years, as PSS concentrates on quality and service.

EXPANSION:

PSS purchases the last surviving production line in the UK from TEI Green. PSS began to manufacture high quality heat exchanger baskets instead of the imported products previously supplied. Our market share increases significantly. PSS also provided engineering services to other industrial sectors including food production and Aluminium smelting, where we manufacture and install conveyor systems, provide plant relocation services involving 1000 tonne cranes, and assist in maintenance of plants across the UK, Pakistan, Korea, Ireland, Cyprus and the USA.

INCREASING OUR SCOPE:

PSS purchase a new 34000sq ft a 34,000sq ft. This investment facilitates continued growth of both product and services sectors of the business. Greater manufacturing and Management space for steel fabrications, regenerative Airheater baskets and site services, ensures continued enhancement of our reputation for quality, flexibility and expertise in our specialist fields. Our major investment in new facilities ensures its continuation.

INTRODUCING LASER CUTTING SERVICES:

PSS purchase a laser cutting machine which sees the establishment of Power System Laser Cutting Services at Foxwood Close, Chesterfield.

OUR LARGEST PROJECT TO DATE:

We finish installation of an HRSG boiler at the Saica Paper Plant in Manchester. The project involved high pressure pipework welding, and was successfully delivered on time.

CONTRIBUTING TO LONDON’S INFRASTRUCTURE:

PSS break into the large UK infrastructure market, manufacturing goods and carrying out installation works for Crossrail. Supply works included important tunnel support steelwork for cross passages, grouting stations and other key access improvement measures.

FURTHER CAPITAL EXPENDITURE:

PSS capacity for structural steelwork is significantly increased by our major investment in a CNC drilling line to speed up production and improve quality at the Carrwood Site.

FIRST PROJECT FOR LONDON UNDERGROUND:

PSS manufacture and supply TBM launch system for the northern line extension.

ELECTRICITY SUBSTATION:

PSS start manufacturing HV equipment supporting steelwork for numerous sites. This is followed shortly after by the provision of installation services not only to install steelwork but also HV equipment.

CONVEYING CEMENT:

PSS start providing specialist manufacture and installation services to the Cement industry. The first major project was completed at Dagenham distribution depot where train unloading, bulk storage, bulk out loading, bagging and Palletising plants were installed. Further Cement industry shutdown support services was also started.

BIOMASS:

PSS install bulk intake pneumatic handling equipment for Lynemouth Power Station. This works includes the installation of free issue parts and significant manufactures such as bridges, silo hoppers and structural steelwork.

INTERNATIONAL SITE TEAM WORK:

PSS complete the refurbishment and reinstatement of previously mothballed smelting Cells ad Aldel Aluminium in Holland.

LARGE STAINLESS STEEL FABRICATIONS- THAMES TIDEWAY WORKS:

PSS are awarded the first of a potential 26 major VORTEX drop pipes that feed storm flows from inundated London sewers into the new Thames Tideway Tunnel.

LARGE STAINLESS STEEL FABRICATIONS- THAMES TIDEWAY WORKS:

PSS are awarded 10 more large diameter Stainless VORTEX drop pipes as a result of the high quality of the first one.
